Prep (Kindy) Lesson: Parts of the Day
Lesson Aim
A student will learn to:
- use common terms to label and describe the different parts of the day
Prior Knowledge
- No previous knowledge required
- Ideally the student will have some exposure to labeling the parts of the day in their personal lives
Time Allocation
1 lesson, approximately 1 hour
- Warm Up and Lesson: approximately 40 - 45 minutes
- Extra Practice: approximately 15 - 20 minutes
NB: One hour is a very long time for little ones. You may like to cap the lesson to half an hour with plenty of brain breaks when necessary. You may like to complete the lesson on one day, then the Extra Practice activities over following day(s).

Year 1 Lesson: Reading 'Half Past' on an Analogue Clock
Lesson Aim
A student will learn to:
- read analogue and digital clocks to the half-hour using terms 'o'clock' and 'half past'
Prior Knowledge
Some knowledge of and skill with:
- counting forwards and backwards in sequence to by 1's to 100 from any starting point
Year 1 - Whole Numbers - Counting to 100 - recognising and describing 'one half' as one of two equal parts of a whole
Year 1 - Fractions and Decimals - Halves and Wholes
Sound knowledge of and skill with:
- telling time to the hour on an analogue and digital clock
Prep/Kindy - Time - Whole Hours
Time Allocation

Year 2 Lesson: Calculating Days on a Calendar
Lesson Aim
A student will learn to:
- use a calendar to calculate the number of days until an upcoming event
Prior Knowledge
Sound knowledge of and skill with:
- counting forwards and backwards in sequence to by 1's to 100 from any starting point
Year 1 - Whole Numbers - Counting to 100 - using a calendar to identify the date, and determine the number of days in each month
Year 1 - Time - Calendars
Time Allocation
1 lesson, approximately 1 hour
- Warm Up and Lesson: approximately 40 - 45 minutes
- Extra Practice: approximately 15 - 20 minutes
